Paul Rosato, 60

Paul A. Rosato, 60, of East Stroudsburg, died on Monday, Oct. 31, 2016, in Pocono Medical Center East Stroudsburg. Born in Bound Brook, New Jersey, he was the son of the late Peter C. Rosato and Eleanor (Cox) Corrine.

Paul was a resident of the East Stroudsburg area for the past 15 years and, prior to that, he resided in the Easton area. He was employed as a mechanic for the AT&T company in the Bedminster, New Jersey, area for 37 years. Paul was of the Catholic faith.

He is survived by three sisters: Mary Farr and husband Lincoln of Martville, New York, Linda C. Dixon of Chetek, Wisconsin, and Patricia Bass of Mason, Ohio; a twin brother, Peter Rosato of Hillsboro Township, New Jersey; three nephews: Donald Hajek of Chetek, Wisconsin, Christopher Bates of Somerville, New Jersey, and Gary Soben of Alaska; and a niece, Gina Duffrin of Bowers Beach, Delaware.

There will be no services at this time. Burial of his ashes will be at Delaware Water Gap Cemetery.

Marie Devino, 61

Marie Devino - 61, On the evening of March 6, 2016, Marie Devino went into the hands of the Lord. She was hospitalized with complications from a stroke and heart attack at Bayshore Hospital in Holmdel, NJ. She was 61 years old.

 

Marie was born in Newark, New Jersey in 1954, the only child of Stamos Angelus and Garifalo Mellas.

 

She grew up in Union Beach then later graduated from Keyport High School. After graduation, Marie went on to a successful 35-year career at AT&T, Holmdel. Her many awards include; the AT&T Service Excellence Award.

 

Marie’s service to her community included volunteering with the Deborah Hospital Foundation.

She served her church as the the Corresponding Secretary of the Executive Board, the Ladies Philoptochos Society Kimisis Tis Theotokou Greek Orthodox Church and was their choir director. Through her years of service she received the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of New Jersey Community Service Award and was awarded the Eastern Federation of Greek Orthodox Choirs and Musicians: 25 Years of Service Award.

 

When Marie set out to do something it was done with a great deal of passion and attention to detail. She surrounded herself with people she admired and always brought fun to any project. She loved ceramics, shopping and camping with her cousins Nick and Maria. Entertaining friends with her specialty backyard BBQ’s and baked goods brought joy to her home. Many of her fondest memories were the travels she experienced with her husband Michael.

 

Marie Devino was preceded in death by, Her father, Stamos Angelus, Grandparents; Konstandino and Maria Kapandais, her loving husband, Michael Devino. Aunts and Uncles; Sophia John) Johnson, Angelina Salvatore, George Kapandais, cousin Dino Lambros, John Kapandais (John) and Michael (Joan), Devino(father-in-law) and his brother Frank (Connie) Devino.

 

Marie is survived by her mother, Garifalo Mellas, Aunt, Katie Kapandais, and cousins; Tom Johnson, Betty (Jerry)Wolack, Michael (Judy) Kapandais and their children Noelle, Arianna and Michael, Kathy (Floyd) Kapandais, Maria (Blaine) Mason and their son Jeremy. Also, her brother, John Wargo, Goddaughter and cousins; Nick (Debbie) Angelus, Renee (Richard) Lewis and their children.

Cecilia Antonelli, 75

Cecilia J. Antonelli, 75, of Lake Ridge, Toms River died Sunday, June 7, at Community Medical Center, Toms River. She was employed for over 20 years as an administrative assistant with the Local # 1150 CWA, New York City before retiring in 1995. She enjoyed playing cards and was an avid sports enthusiast and a lifelong fan of the Brooklyn Dodgers. Among her passions were family, friends, and her cherished grandchildren. Born in Brooklyn, NY, she lived on Staten Island from 1966-1997 before moving to Toms River 18 years ago. She is predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Victor Antonelli who died on May 17. Surviving is a son and daughter in law, Robert and Maria Antonelli of Freehold, her daughter, Victoria Pantaleo of Toms River, a brother, Robert Galasso of West Babylon, NY and 3 grandchildren, Daniel, Michael, and Alexandra.

Roy’s Irish Soda Bread Recipe

Combine 1 1/4 cups of milk and 1/4 cup of vinegar
Melt 2 1/2 tablespoons of butter
Beat 2 eggs lightly
3 cups of flour
2/3 cup of sugar
1 tablespoon of baking powder
1 teaspoon of baking soda
1 teaspoon of salt
2 1/2 tablespoons of caraway seeds
2 cups of raisins
Preheat oven to 350 °F
Pam all cooking surfaces

Baking times
22 minutes for muffins
30 minutes for small loaves 
35 minutes for large loaves (add 7 minutes at 325 °F)

Robert Swanson, 63

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Robert Steven Swanson, 63, of Grant City, an indefatigable volunteer who coached teams, led a Boy Scout troop and worked in a church soup kitchen, died Sunday at home of coronary complications.

Born in Brooklyn, he moved to South Beach in 1972 and to Grant City in 1988.

He served in the U.S. Navy from 1969 to 1971, and spent several years in the U.S. Naval Reserves.

While working at AT&T in Manhattan as a communications technician, he earned an associate’s degree from the College of Staten Island. He retired in 2001 after 30 years.

Mr. Swanson was a longtime member and past secretary/treasurer of the Communication Workers of America, Local 1150. He was a past president of the local’s Retirees Council and founder of the Federation of AT&T Retired Technicians.

Mr. Swanson coached various YMCA teams — basketball, T-ball and baseball — for years. He was a former Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 45, headquartered at Trinity Lutheran Church, Stapleton. At Trinity, he was also a Saturday volunteer in the parish soup kitchen for 22 years.

He belonged to Christ Episcopal Church, New Brighton.

His wife of nearly 40 years, the former Geraldine Redden, recalled, “He was proud that he was able to send his children to college and that instead of investing in the stock market, he was investing in his children.”

In addition to his wife, Geraldine, surviving are his son, Robert Sean; two daughters, Kristen and Tara Swanson; a brother, Peter, and one granddaughter.
